A beautiful and immersive children’s book about being yourself, being bold and being kind.
Only Little Now started as a short, poem-style story that I wrote after having my first daughter, and through a collaboration with Hannah Bluish, my very talented illustrator friend, it has grown into something bigger, deeper, more beautiful and more universal.
The story follows a bold and brilliant little girl as she dreams of all the things she might do in her life. In the current political and environmental climate, it’s so easy to feel discouraged or anxious about what the future looks like for our children, but we wanted to tell a different story: Only Little Now is a celebration of the potential, optimism and boldness of children and young people to lead the way. We want them to know that they can make a difference, they have a voice, and they are powerful. We want them to be free to explore who they are and what they love, and then use this to change the world in their own unique way. Ultimately, we want them to be excited about the future and their role in it.
Over the last year, Hannah and I have worked closely on every illustration to create something that would be both a fun and vibrant adventure for very small children, and a more thought-provoking and empowering experience for older ones. Hannah has woven so much detail into the beautiful illustrations that there are endless layers to discover and talk about around the idea of being kind to each other and kind to our world.
